Join an organization striving to improve the image of engineering in Canada by profiling Canadian engineering excellence through industry award events in an increasing number of provinces and through the Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards held annually at the national level.
Support awareness raising efforts through National Engineering Month and annual conventions of the provincial and national associations. Contribute to outreach programs to students, clients and the general public through high schools, universities and the media.
Representation
ACEC and member organizations provide the only coordinated business network in Canada that speaks out for your interests to decision makers, both private and public, at the municipal, provincial and federal levels on key business and professional issues such as:
- Quality-based selection as the best way to encourage innovation and reduce life-cycle costs;
- Outsourcing of engineering services;
- Public sector competition within our industry sector; and
- Public commitment to Canadian municipal and highway infrastructure as a priority to protect the public's health and safety and promote sustainable development.
ACEC and member organizations effectively represent industry views to local and national media, the general public and to other industries and organizations with which member firms associate.
Networking
Over 600 independent consulting engineering firms contribute to a dynamic organization that includes a network of 11 provincial and territorial member organizations. Participate in provincial and national committees and expand your personal and corporate network for business development and exposure to new markets and business trends. Enjoy social events during the year designed to introduce you to potential partners and clients. In addition, receive monthly bulletins and newsletters from your provincial and national associations on current issues and opportunities of practical interest and benefit to members.
Business Practices
Staying abreast of industry and market trends to help members to compete successfully at home and abroad, ACEC:
- Develops industry standard agreements that protect and promote your business interests;
- Offers ACEC-managed Peer Reviews to keep your firm at the leading edge of industry best practices and management norms;
- Provides a forum to discuss and manage changes to the way projects are delivered; and
- Offers business-related training courses organized by the national and provincial associations.
International
Through ACEC, as Canada's representative in the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), members enjoy access and exposure to consulting engineers from around the world and to the many services, publications and programs offered by this international organization.
- Participate in industry led briefing sessions at the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank;
- Contribute to industry positions on key policy issues respecting CIDA procurement, tax issues, access to the U.S. market, international project finance;
- Expand your knowledge of international market opportunities and foreign business practices by networking with business people from other member firms; and
- Identify member firms for potential international business partnerships and meet key government decision-makers through direct participation in committee activities.
