National Engineering Month
Celebrating engineering excellence across Canada!
Presented by Engineers Canada, NEM encourages those in the engineering profession to reach out to young Canadians to let them know what an exciting and fun career choice engineering really is. Throughout this month volunteers from its provincial and territorial regulators host over 500 events across Canada. This year’s theme, “There’s A Place for You,” emphasizes that an engineering career can take you anywhere. With engineering’s many disciplines and uses, every youth can find something that speaks to them.

As an NEM partner, ACEC promotes consulting engineering as a career of choice and encourages its members to get involved in this national initiative. You can participate in promoting NEM by using the hashtag #nem2017 and follow @ACECCanada and @EngineersCanada on Twitter. ACEC will also be retweeting its member firms’ tweets throughout the month.
ACEC’s student outreach activities
As part of ACEC’s student outreach initiative and in celebration of NEM, ACEC President and CEO John Gamble, along with Communications and Marketing Specialist Christina Locmelis, attended the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students' (CFES) Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) and participated as judges in the Extemporaneous Debate competition.
ACEC was also on hand to announce the results of the debate as well as present the winning team from McMaster University with their award during the banquet ceremony. In addition, ACEC exhibited at the event’s career fair and were joined by two local members of ACEC’s Young Professional Network; Kate Kirkland from Urban Systems and Simon Armstrong-Bayliss from McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd., who generously volunteered their time to help spread the word about consulting engineering and all the benefits and opportunities that a career in this sector provides.
