Online Control System Migration of an Industrial Centrifuge

Suncor Energy needed to update the obsolete controls for one of their 500 horsepower centrifuges, used during a component of the oil sands recovery process, without affecting operations. CIMA’s innovative TEMPUS tool, which enables live hot cutover migration to new controls, was piloted in this project. For the first time, it was possible to execute this migration work without requiring a full shut down or impacting production. TEMPUS’ innovative technology permits migration without loss in productivity, decreases the risk of losing control over the system, and improves cost effectiveness by eliminating the need for plant outages.
