Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM)

HH Angus and Associates Limited

Montreal, QC

The Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal is the largest hospital project in North America, totaling 354,000 m2. The size and the complexity of the project presented numerous challenges, as did the downtown site, zoning restrictions and cost ceiling. Challenges such as reliability, redundancy, energy efficiency and air quality as defined by CHUM pushed the requirements beyond a typical hospital facility. HH Angus provided consulting engineering for all mechanical, electrical and security systems on behalf of Construction Santé Montréal. The project’s P3 model challenged the HH Angus team to develop a series of innovative alternatives to the client’s original requirements that, when combined, created a unique engineering solution with a focus on air quality and energy performance.
