ACEC President & CEO and ACEC YPN Chair will welcome participants to the 2019 YP Forum at the Kick-off Welcome Lunch. This will be a great opportunity for participants to network and become acquainted.

Identifying Core Values and Long-Term Goal Setting

During this session, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about their personality style self-assessment results (they will have completed the self-assessment prior to the Forum). They will learn about the characteristics of different personality styles and how to work with colleagues of different styles. Participants will also identify their core values and preferred professional activities and use this knowledge to guide their long-term career goal setting.

The Value of Strategic Thinking 

Building on the discussion around core values and goal setting, this session will focus on helping participants understand how they and their firm fit into the landscape of the consulting engineering sector in Canada. Using the four ACEC-Canada Strategic Priorities, participants will prepare a rapid-fire presentation outlining recommended actions and programs to support these priorities.

Rapid Fire Presentations

Practice makes perfect! This session will see participants rehearse their rapid-fire presentation to their peers and receive feedback from the group.

Managing your Career

With core values and career goals identified, participants will be encouraged to make use of strategic thinking to identify how to develop and manage their career path. The benefits of mentorship, sponsorship, peer support, and extracurricular opportunities will be discussed and participants will develop a career action plan with the support of the group and session facilitator.

Crafting Your Message

Effective interpersonal communication is a critical skill. Whether the interaction is with a peer, a supervisor, or a direct report, understanding your audience and developing clear messaging regarding the ‘ask’ are the cornerstones of a successful interaction. This session will assist participants in crafting their message to successfully delegate and manage up and prepare for their next performance review/career planning session.

Presentation Skills

During this session, the art of public speaking will be explored, from projecting positive body language to engaging the audience through tone and eye contact. Participants will have the opportunity to hone their presentation skills through a variety of activities and exercises.

2:30pm - 3:30pm Break & Working Session Participants will have the opportunity to finalize their presentations for delivery to the ACEC-Canada Board of Directors.

The final session of the forum will see participants bring together all of the skills covered through the forum business program and make their group presentation to the ACEC-Canada Board of Directors.
